A beloved museum is waking up once again—this time with a new cast, new story, and fresh nightfall chaos.

The exhibits are stirring once more. Night at the Museum, the hit family adventure franchise that began in 2006, is officially being revived by 20th Century Studios and producer Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment.

Ben Stiller led the original trilogy as Larry Daley, a hapless night guard at New York’s Natural History Museum who discovers that, due to an ancient Egyptian curse, the museum’s displays come to life after dark. With a cast that included Robin Williams as a wax figure of Theodore Roosevelt, Rami Malek as Pharaoh Ahkmenrah, and Owen Wilson as a cowboy mini-figure, the series became a box office juggernaut and family favorite.

Now, screenwriter Tripper Clancy (Die Hart, Stuber) has been tapped to pen a fresh reimagining of the story. While plot details are currently under wraps, sources confirm that the project is not a direct sequel but rather a new take on the high-concept premise.

The original Night at the Museum debuted in 2006, followed by Battle of the Smithsonian in 2009 and Secret of the Tombin 2014. Collectively, the films earned over $540 million at the U.S. box office, cementing their place in 21st-century family film canon. All three were directed by Levy, who is set to return as producer on the reboot alongside Dan Levine. Emily Morris will oversee the project on behalf of 21 Laps.

The timing of the announcement coincides with 21 Laps’ continued industry momentum—particularly with their work on Stranger Things, which is preparing for its final season. The company remains repped by WME.

No casting or release timeline has been announced yet, but the project signals 20th Century Studios’ ongoing investment in revitalizing fan-favorite properties for a new generation.
