‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ Trailer: Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell Headline Kogonada’s Whimsical Romance
A lyrical return to form for director Kogonada, this upcoming romance-fantasy explores the lives of two strangers caught between memory & magic.
Sony Pictures has unveiled the official trailer for A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, a poetic romance-fantasy starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Kogonada (Columbus, After Yang). The film reunites Farrell with his After Yang co-star Jodie Turner-Smith, and boasts an ensemble that includes Lily Rabe, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Hamish Linklater.
Billed as “an imaginative tale of two strangers,” the film delves into themes of fate, memory, and second chances. Written by The Menu’s Seth Reiss, the story blends grounded drama with magical realism, offering a love story that unfolds through surreal and whimsical twists.
Colin Farrell describes the project as “a love story, but not a very typical one,” noting that it exists in a world “removed enough into the fantastical that it goes into these kinds of whimsical places.” The trailer teases visually stunning landscapes and emotionally charged moments of introspection, suggesting a narrative that bends time and space in service of love and longing.
Robbie, in her first major on-screen role since Barbie, seems to channel a quieter, more meditative side in this dreamlike tale. Her recent work as a producer on Saltburn, My Old Ass, and Borderline shows a commitment to bold and unconventional storytelling—qualities that resonate throughout this film. Farrell, fresh off his SAG Award win for The Penguin, brings gravitas and vulnerability to his role, deepening the film’s emotional stakes.
